This is a dataset of the results of the Teaching Shakespeare's Violence project, funded by a BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grant (ref. SRG2223\230282.). It includes transcripts of four focus groups held with A-level students in Staffordshire; the survey responses of 310 students aged 14-19 in the Staffordshire and London areas, including the coding added by the researchers; a copy of the original survey; and the coding framework used by the research team

Data collection method: Survey: anonymous paper survey administered to students in two sixth-form colleges and two schools in the London and Staffordshire areas, studying GCSE or A-level English literature, aged 14-19, with a mean age of 16.38. Qualitative data subsequently analysed using Thematic Framework Analysis. Pseudonymised focus groups: Conducted with four groups of self-selected A-level English students in the Staffordshire area from schools/colleges previously surveyed, mean age of 16.8.
